Anton Cullen, of Triangle Productions, chose art to celebrate his appreciation of Frontline Workers during Covid-19 pandemic.

Anton is involved in the company Triangle Productions, who work design and building sets and scenery for theatres, television and art event. When Covid-19 shut down theatres across the nation, Anton had some time, skills and materials to hand.

Over the lockdown period in early to mid 2020, Anton painted a beautiful large mural to represent all those who took the time to take care of protect and support those in our society who are more vulnerable, especially to Covid-19, despite any risks their own well-being.

A lot of planning and preparing went into this mural. Anton wanted to create a large artwork, to ensure everyone was represented - from medics to firefighters to the coastguard. Anton photographed the whole process, which began with a pencil outline of over 40 people, that is over 40 individual portraits, before adding detail and finally colour.

With the scale he had in mind, he chose to use a part of the scenery of a theatre set in solid wood.  

We in the Arts Committee in CUH are extremely grateful to Anton for his generosity in sharing his work with us and allowing us to hang the mural in pride of place in the Staff Dining Room in CUH.
